Love defined by Swami Vivekananda

I once had a friend who grew to be very close to me.

Once when we were sitting at the edge of a swimming pool, she filled the palm of her hand with some water and held it before me, and said this: "You see this water carefully contained on my hand? It symbolizes Love."

This was how I saw it: As long as you keep your hand caringly open and allow it to remain there, it will always be there. However, if you attempt to close your fingers round it and try to posses it, it will spill through the first cracks it finds.

This is the greatest mistake that people do when they meet love...they try to posses it, they demand, they expect... And just like the water spilling out of your hand, love will retrieve from you .

For love is meant to be free, you cannot change its nature. If there are people you love, allow them to be free beings.

Give and don't expect.
Advise, but don't order.
Ask, but never demand.

It might sound simple, but it is a lesson that may take a lifetime to truly practice. It is the secret to true love. To truly practice it, you must sincerely feel no expectations from those who you love, and yet an unconditional caring."

Passing thought... Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take; but by the moments that take our breath away.....

Life is beautiful!! Live it !!

The Art of Giving

"Rivers do not drink their own water, nor do tree eat their own fruit, nor do rain clouds eat the grains reared by them. The wealth of the noble is used solely for the benefit of others?

Even after accepting that giving is good and that one must learn to give, several questions need to be answered.

The first question is when should one give?

We all know the famous incident from the Mahabharata.

Yudhisthir, asks a beggar seeking alms to come the next day. On this, Bhim rejoices, that Yudhisthir his brother, has conquered death! For he is sure that he will be around tomorrow to give. Yudhisthir gets the message.

One does not know really whether one will be there tomorrow to give! The time to give therefore is now.

The next question is how much to give.

One recalls the famous incident from history. Rana Pratap was reeling after defeat from the Moghals. He had lost his army, he had lost his wealth, and most important he had lost hope, his will to fight. At that time in his darkest hour, his erstwhile minister Bhamasha came seeking him and placed his entire fortune at the disposal of Rana Pratap. With this, Rana Pratap raised an army and lived to fight another day.

The answer to this question how much to give is "Give as much as you can!

The next question is what to give. It is not only money that can be given. It could be a flower or even a smile.

It is not how much one gives but how one gives that really matters. When you give a smile to a stranger that may be the only good thing received by him in days and weeks! "You can give anything but you must give with your heart!

One also needs answer to this question whom to give.

Many times we avoid giving by finding fault with the person who is seeking. However, being judgmental and rejecting a person on the presumption that he may not be the most deserving is not justified. “Give without being judgmental!

Next we have to answer How to give

Coming to the manner of giving, one has to ensure that the receiver does not feel humiliated, nor does the giver feel proud by giving.

In giving follow the advice, ’Let not your left hand know what your right hand gives? Charity without publicity and fanfare is the highest form of charity. 'Give quietly!

While giving let not the recipient feel small or humiliated. After all what we give never really belonged to us. We come to this world with nothing and will go with nothing. The thing gifted was only with us for a temporary period. Why then take pride in giving away something which really did not belong to us? Give with grace and with a feeling of gratitude.
When you help someone in need, give it before he asks for it; for if you place him under the necessity of stretching out his hand, you take away from him his self-respect which is worth more than the value of your alms.

What should one feel after giving?

We all know the story of Eklavya. When Dronacharya asked him for his right thumb as "Guru Dakshina", he unhesitatingly cut off the thumb and gave it to Dronacharya.

There is a little known sequel to this story. Eklavya was asked whether he ever regretted the act of giving away his thumb. He replied, and the reply has to be believed to be true, as it was asked to him when he was dying.

His reply was "Yes! I regretted this only once in my life. It was when Pandavas were coming in to kill Dronacharya who was broken hearted on the false news of death of his son Ashwathama and had stopped fighting. It was then that I regretted the loss of my thumb. If the thumb was there, no one could have dared hurt my Guru.

The message to us is clear. Give and never regret giving!

And the last question is How much should we provide for our heirs?

Ask yourself 'are we taking away from them the gift of work'? - A source of happiness! The answer is given by Warren Buffett: "Leave your kids enough to do anything, but not enough to do nothing!

I would conclude by saying: let us learn the Art of Giving, and quoting Saint Kabir:

"When the wealth in the house increases, when water fills a boat, Throw them out with both hands"

Response Vs Reaction

Lately i was at a restaurant having my evening coffee...Perfect day to have a hot coffee as the weather outside was quite cloudy..giving me a feeling its gonna rain now.The restaurant was decently crowded ..

Things where going smoothly until ; a cockroach suddenly flew from somewhere and sat on a lady on the near by table of mine..

She started screaming out of fear.

With a panic stricken face and trembling voice, she started jumping, with both her hands desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach.

Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group also got panicky.

The lady finally managed to push the cockroach away but ... it landed on another lady in the group.
Now, it was the turn of the other lady in the group to continue the drama.

The waiter rushed forward to their rescue. In the relay of throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the waiter.

The waiter stood firm, composed himself and observed the behavior of the cockroach on his shirt.
When he was confident enough, he grabbed it with his fingers and threw it out of the restaurant.

                 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~***~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sipping my coffee and watching the amusement, the antenna of my mind picked up a few thoughts and started wondering, was the cockroach responsible for their histrionic behavior?
If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed?
He handled it near to perfection, without any chaos.
It is not the cockroach, but the inability of the ladies to handle the disturbance caused by the cockroach that disturbed the ladies.
I realized that, it is not the shouting of my parents or my boss  that disturbs me, but it's my inability to handle the disturbances caused by their shouting that disturbs me.
It's not the traffic jams on the road that disturbs me, but my inability to handle the disturbance caused by the traffic jam that disturbs me.
More than the problem, it's my reaction to the problem that creates chaos in my life.
Lessons learnt from this:
I understood, I should not react in life. I should always respond.
The women reacted, whereas the waiter responded.
Reactions are always instinctive whereas responses are always well thought of, just and right to save a situation from going out of hand, to avoid cracks in relationship, to avoid taking decisions in anger, anxiety, stress or hurry!
Salty Coffee
Haii friends,
Back to Blog again. In fact was thinking to scribble something from past week,but indeed was waiting for a right and worth post to be shared.
Today while surfing net i came across this beautiful story and it really touched me in some aspects.
If you have some time to spare ,,take a look on this,,i promise you will not be disappointed.
He met her on a party. She was so outstanding, many guys chasing after her, while he was so normal, nobody paid attention to him. At the end of the party, he invited her to have coffee with him, she was surprised, but due to being polite, she promised.
They sat in a nice coffee shop, he was too nervous to say anything, she felt uncomfortable, she thought, please, let me go home. Suddenly he asked the waiter: "would you please give me some salt? I'd like to put it in my coffee."
Everybody stared at him, so strange! His face turned red, but, still, he put the salt in his coffee and drank it. She asked him curiously: why you have this hobby? He replied: "when I was a little boy, I was living near the sea, I liked playing in the sea, and I could feel the taste of the sea, just like the taste of the salty coffee. Now every time I have the salty coffee, I always think of my childhood, think of my home town, I miss my home town so much, I miss my parents who are still living there". While saying that tears filled his eyes. She was deeply touched.
That's his true feeling, from the bottom of his heart. A man who can tell out his homesickness, he must be a man who loves home, cares about home, has responsibility
of home. Then she also started to speak, spoke about her far away hometown, her childhood, her family. That was a really nice talk, also a beautiful beginning of their story.
They continued to date. She found that actually he was a man who meets all her demands; he had tolerance, was kind hearted, warm, careful. He was such a good person but she almost missed him. Thanks to his salty coffee!
Then the story was just like every beautiful love story, the princess married to the prince, and then they were living the happy life...
And, every time she made coffee for him, she put some salt in the coffee, as she knew that's the way he liked it.
After 40 years, he passed away, He left a letter for her before he died, She Opened the letter after few days and the letter said so;
My dearest, please forgive me, forgive my whole life lie. This was the only lie I said to you---the salty coffee. Remember the first time we dated? I was so nervous at that time, actually I wanted some sugar, but I said salt it was hard for me to change so I just went ahead. I never thought that could be the start of our communication!
I tried to tell you the truth many times in my life, but I was too afraid to do that, as I have promised not to lie to you for anything... Now I'm dying, I am afraid of nothing so I tell you the truth: I don't like the salty coffee, what a strange bad taste. But I have had the salty coffee for my whole life! Since I knew you, I never feel sorry for anything I do for you. Having you with me is my biggest happiness for my whole life. If I can live for the second time, still want to know you and have you for my whole life, even though I have to drink the salty coffee again".
Her tears made the letter totally wet.
Someday, someone asked her: what's the taste of salty coffee?
 It's sweet. She replied.
Isn't it folks ???
My Life Untold 2011
2011 just passed…Well I think it passed like a metro express..
Turning back to 2011, I can simply say it was a mixed year for me
I had many positives to take and few negatives to dig from this year
 A catastrophic view of  my life in 2011
January - February 2011
Well had a silent celebration of 2011 and as a result January & February was completely silent .I doesn’t even realized January passed. One big thing happened in this month and that was indeed big thing for my family too, my sweet sisters engagement. My presence for the engagement should be explained with this quote “Comes like a Thunder and gone like a lightning” .Thanks to the internal exams and other old boring routines (classes, assignments, field works) which made my presence limited to 5 days for my sisters engagement….
Valentine’s day made February alive, but not so intense in my current college like what I had in my graduation college..Should proudly say engineer’s rocks than managers! (At least in love n proposals)
March- April 2011
World Cup fever!!! He he he he…
Cheered for team India like anything...Cheered for Sachin like anything!
Felt much happy as World cup reached India after a long 28 years...Still remembers the celebration we had in hostel after India clinching the title. It was awesome...a fun loving March and April
May 2011
After effect of world cup…Internship. Was fortunate enough to get into DHL Express for carrying out my Summer Internship.
Got the offer letter by the month end .Working Span allotted was for 45 days .After getting offer letter, was silently exited to join the firm and was awaiting the D-day
 June-July 2011
Internship begins from June 2.Belive me DHL Express is one of the Cool organization to be in. No Stress, No Rocket Science...keep the things simple and rightly said excellence simply delivered. Loved and enjoyed working for them. Had two great travels in this stint. One to Tirunelveli, tamilNadu to see the Mini Ware mart and another one to the great Chennai, Mylapore to see the main hub/warehouse. Journey was quite tough; indeed travelling in a pickup fan will drench you out:
Learning’s were a lot. Interacting with people who are in corporate or out will surely lift your level up. Had 45 gifted days to enrich myself and hopes I justified but still wud have carried more. Will conclude as Well happened Months
August-September 2011
Was running behind reports (internship) at the first part of August. Working in DHL Express was tension free...Creating a report including lots of stuffs was little bit weird and horrible. Later part of august seen a fight between me and my sister as I failed to send her birthday gift.
Meanwhile my college gifted me by electing me into the newly formed Placement cell as Executive Placement Coordinator. Felt much happy to serve the college and promised myself in that occasion that I will justify my position. Was pretty sure that tough days are looking me ahead and future of 2011 proven that vividly.
Till September I should say I was completely free from tensions, enjoyed all the works, was covered in fun and was with lots of excitements. From October middle to December 2011 I should say it’s my dark phase of 2011.The person to be blamed for this dark phase is ME alone
October 2011
Lot of things happened in this months. My sister got married, my parents helped her in finding the right person of her life and happily they are now settled in Boston, United States of America. I was with mixed emotions in her marriage, Much Happy for her blessed life and little bit sad for she now being little away from our family. Her marriage was grandly celebrated, and was happy with the way all things gone through the marriage. My brother-in-law indeed is a cool and down to earth engineer who is the team leader of a software giant .He’s such a nice guy that anyone would have loved to have him. My Sister is damn lucky!
My brother in law’s designation and my reunion with my cousin brother’s who are in top organizations opened few opportunities towards me and indeed I should say my dark phase begins from there. Opportunities what I got, I tried to transform it for my fellow colleagues and that indeed resulted in a huge mistake (I think so) and hence I lost my peace of mind..
November 2011
My birthday month!
Iam a Sagittarian and Sagittarian people are known for the challenges they took and complete. I had a great challenge in this month and for completing it (at least from my side) I had to face many hurdles. My intension was pure, thought of helping but it failed miserably because of ….............?
Heard a lot of curses, gone through stress, lost my peace. No fun...it was horrible.
Middle of this month I had an opportunity to be in NHRD Conference, Banglore where I got an esteem opportunity to interact with Mrs. Vinita Bali, MD of Britannia and lot many. Mentioned her name as I adore that lady. That week indeed was for learning and fun and surely will carry memories for a life time
 November ended with Birthday. I was surprised and touched by the way my roommates and friends arranged my birthday gift and celebrations for me in my room. Never experienced such a birthday bash ever before and it indeed will stay evergreen in my life...Thanks a lot to them
December 2011
Climate was cool! Mind was cool! And so December was also cool!
Christmas Month…
Realized true characters of my few friends in this month. Quite bit learning! Well it was indeed shocking to know such things about such people but indeed no one to blame as the fault lies against me, I perceived wrong people as right people. Thanks To God as at least learned now. It’s wisely said Books and friends should be few and good.
December 2011 ended in high note with a grand party arranged in Hostel exclusively for the people who stay away from Hard Drinks and Cigarette's...It’s been an amazing experience as because its often the above said people celebrates in such occasions..Well we proved, celebrations are the same, fun is the same, enjoyment is the same even though Hard drinks and co is not there...Cheers guys!!
New Year Resolution
Well I am not found of this thing. People say about resolutions...and forget about it after the first week of January…
What I perceive is ; for taking a resolution why should one wait till a new year. If one wants to have, he / she can have it this moment, next moment and so…
So for me no resolutions as of now. My resolutions happen in moments, not in years.
New Year wishes
This time intentionally doesn’t wished many of my friends just to check their intensity..Well you can say indeed a mini test..lol…
Should say majority of whomever I expected called me without me giving a try …and those who doesn’t had given their intentions clearly with their deed…No worries..Chillax
Welcoming 2012
Have high hopes on 2012...My goals should turn on the way I want and I’m carving my knife prepared
All the best fellas !!!!
Happy New Year 2012
